A Shopify Case Study
Kristin Schmucker Shop (Pottsville, PA), launched in 2014, began when founder Kristin turned her grief over the loss of her daughter, Sophia, into a short devotional booklet. From that single product the business grew into a curated online shop of encouraging, faith-based items for women—focused on products customers can’t easily find in person. The primary challenge was scaling from one heartfelt product to a sustainable e-commerce brand: finding reliable suppliers, reaching a wider audience, and managing fulfillment as a small, home-based team.
The team expanded its line by sourcing from local printers and wholesalers and leaned into authentic storytelling and social media to drive growth. Early sales came through word of mouth and Instagram, which grew from about 2,500 to over 30,000 followers in roughly a year, becoming the top traffic and sales channel. Fulfillment is handled in-house with Shippo supporting shipping, allowing the small husband-and-wife team (plus one helper) to scale operations while maintaining a personal connection with customers.
