krama wheel - Customer Case Study

Krama Wheel, based in Austin, sells handwoven scarves sourced from a cooperative of women weavers in rural Cambodia—each scarf is hand-dyed, hand-knotted and hand-sewn. The brand was born after the founder’s travels revealed both the beauty of local textiles and the urgent need for economic opportunity and education; Krama Wheel’s goal was to create a sustainable business that funds supplemental income for artisans and donates a school uniform for every scarf sold. The challenge was launching and scaling a new retail business with no prior experience while maintaining artisan relationships and managing inventory, fulfillment and storytelling.

They launched on Shopify, earned their first online sales via social media, and built systems using Stitch Labs and MailChimp while handling fulfillment in-house with USPS (recently adding Canada). Editorial coverage in Vogue and Lucky plus Facebook, email campaigns and growing Pinterest Buyable Pins became top traffic drivers. The result: a loyal, organically grown customer base, steady sales growth, national press exposure, and ongoing support for the Cambodian weavers and school uniform donations.
