John’s Crazy Socks, With $4M+ In Sales Over Just 22 Months, Is Not a Cute Story

John’s Crazy Socks is a Long Island ecommerce brand founded in 2016 by John Cronin, who has Down syndrome, and his father Mark. Built around a social mission (5% of earnings to Special Olympics) and more than 2,300 SKUs, the company quickly attracted media attention and viral demand — a surge that nearly overwhelmed their early operations and forced them to solve how to scale while staying true to their mission.

The Cronins scaled by following a lean startup approach, upgrading to Shopify Plus, investing in fulfillment and customer experience, and using tools like Klaviyo, SEO, and paid search to retain customers. In 22 months they surpassed $4M in revenue, shipped 118,000 orders to all 50 states and 44 countries, grew conversion rate 15% and sales 251% year-over-year, hired 18 people with differing abilities, and raised about $170,000 for charity.
