A Shopify Case Study
Jackets for Jasper is a Vancouver-based social enterprise that designs affordable children's lightweight down jackets made by a small family manufacturer in Nepal. Born from a friendship with their Nepali guide Kamal and named for his son Jasper, the brand exists to fund schooling for Jasper, Resmi and others; its key challenges have been scaling limited local production (power shortages and a seven-person workshop), managing 100+ colour/style/size variants, and handling fulfillment as demand grew.
They moved to Shopify online and retail to manage variants and pop-up sales, partnered with Deep Cove Outdoors for retail distribution and pickup, and ship directly from home. Press coverage and pop-ups drove early traction (about 250 jackets sold in year one), the team helped raise roughly $23,000 after the Nepal earthquake, and ongoing sales now support Nepali families—Shopify tools and apps streamlined operations, while production capacity remains the main constraint.
