I Love Mole is a Los Angeles family restaurant that rebranded and repackaged its signature mole to sell online, sourcing authentic ingredients from Oaxaca to preserve traditional flavors. The main challenge was expanding beyond walk-in diners to reach a national audience while maintaining control over the customer experience and fulfillment.
They launched a Shopify store linked from their restaurant site, optimized the customer journey by linking directly to their top-selling item, and manage orders and shipping in-house (using Shopify desktop and FedEx ShipRush for labels) to control packaging. The result is steady online growth with a large share of out-of-state sales — including their first order from North Carolina — and increased national visibility following the James Beard Foundation American Classics Award.
