How Sudara Uses Shopify Plus to Bring Hope to Women

Sudara, founded by Shannon Keith after witnessing the realities of India's red-light districts, makes brightly patterned PUNJAMMIES™ to provide sustainable work and pay women a living wage (2–3x fair trade rates). The challenge was scaling an online business model that could absorb higher labor costs while staying mission-driven and easy to manage—after leaving Shopify for a clunkier solution, Sudara needed a platform that would let the team focus on impact, not technology.

Returning to Shopify Plus in April 2015 gave Sudara the simple, scalable ecommerce tools and reporting it needed to operate as a real business. The relaunch drove a 4x increase in growth year-over-year and enabled Sudara to prioritize transparent, sustainable employment over charity, helping women transition out of sexual slavery while offering ethical choices to consumers.
