How Manitobah Mukluks Uses Shopify Plus for Brand Storytelling

Manitobah Mukluks is a Winnipeg-based Métis-founded footwear brand that revived traditional mukluks and moccasins to preserve Indigenous culture while building a scalable business. With limited marketing and distribution budgets, the founders needed a way to reach international customers, tell an authentic brand story online, and grow without a large technical team.

They chose Shopify (now Shopify Plus) for its ease of customization, fast launch and channel integrations, allowing a small in-house team to scale the site and center storytelling initiatives like the Storyboot Project. The result: Manitobah became one of Canada’s fastest-growing footwear brands with international customers and a Profit 500 ranking, while driving measurable community impact—selling artisan Storyboots (some fetching ~$1,200), directing proceeds to makers, training local Aboriginal staff (35% of employees) and operating the site with just one developer.
