How LilGadgets Built an Ultra-Custom Shopify Plus Checkout & Lifted Peak Conversions 38.3%

LilGadgets, a family‑founded brand that makes headphones and accessories designed specifically for children, grew out of a need spotted by founders Jacquie and Jason Hembrey after a frustrating long flight with their daughter. After launching on Amazon, LilGadgets moved to Shopify Plus in 2015 to build a checkout that matched their brand and reduced the high rate of drop‑off that occurs during the purchase process.

Working with creative agency ANY and Shopify Plus partner DBNY, LilGadgets implemented an ultra‑custom checkout: a clear three‑step flow presented on a single desktop page (with each step as a standalone page on mobile), a feedback‑triggered sidebar cart, Google Maps address verification, and Shopify Pay. The result was a 38.3% lift in peak conversions, an average conversion rate of 8%, and higher conversions even as site traffic increased by 80%, with customers praising the checkout’s simplicity and design.
