Floorplan Rugs, founded in 2015 and based in Los Angeles, grew out of a designer’s move to Turkey and a gap she saw in the market: trustworthy, straight-talking sellers of high-quality handmade rugs at prices real people can afford. The core challenge was sourcing authentic handmade rugs without retail markups and managing the logistics of shipping mostly one-of-a-kind pieces.

They solve that by traveling directly to producers in India, Pakistan, Turkey and cutting out the middleman, packing and shipping unique rugs themselves (typically via UPS). Early growth came from word-of-mouth and now Pinterest, Instagram and a focused email program (MailChimp) drive the most qualified traffic; building a real customer community has proven more effective than typical ad spend and sustains steady conversions.
