A Shopify Case Study
Change Merchants is a Sydney-based online shop building a fair and ethical trade marketplace in Australia. The founders saw a gap—Australian shoppers had limited access to good-quality ethical goods—and wanted to economically empower artisans by bringing their products into this market. Early constraints included limited time and capital to build many direct supplier relationships, so they combined direct charity partnerships with a major wholesaler to offer a varied range while they scaled.
To solve visibility and operations challenges they pitched product stories to media (notably coverage of PUNJAMMIES™) and prioritized social channels like Facebook, plus Mailchimp for launches, which together drove meaningful sales and traffic. On the backend they use Shopify integrations (Pinterest, Instagram, Google Shopping), apps like Persistent Cart and Bulk Discounts, and OneSaas to route orders to an external warehouser—freeing time, enabling travel, and creating scalable fulfillment—while PR and social remain their primary traffic drivers.
