Brooklyn Delhi, founded in December 2013, makes handmade Indian achaars (spicy fruit-and-vegetable condiments) produced in Brooklyn by a chef who also writes and teaches about Indian cooking. The challenge was turning a pop-up and class favorite into a packaged product and storefront—an idea driven by her fiancé, a food packaging designer—and finding an easy way to sell and reach customers online.

They launched on Shopify, announced the shop on the founder’s food blog to earn the first orders, and now rely on web and social media for most traffic and sales. The founder handles packing and shipping herself and uses Shopify’s reporting and page tools to manage orders and marketing; the quick setup and shareable URL are highlighted as key lessons for new ecommerce entrepreneurs.
