Better Off Spread is a Brooklyn-based nut-butter brand founded by Jenny and Jonny, who combined Jenny’s peanut-butter roots and Jonny’s food-retail experience to create small-batch spreads made from organic, dry-roasted, GMO-free nuts sourced where possible from family-run U.S. suppliers. Their main challenge was sourcing quality ingredients and getting shelf space and visibility as a new food brand.

They built sales by literally knocking on doors—bringing samples to local retailers—and gradually scaled wholesale accounts while growing direct-to-consumer sales online. Running the store on Shopify (mobile), promoting via Facebook and Pinterest, and shipping with USPS helped them operate remotely and efficiently; today wholesale drives most revenue, online orders surge around holidays and press, and retail pick-ups continue to expand.
