Belong Designs, a lifestyle and action-sports brand based in Golden, Colorado (belongdesigns.com), set out to turn a passion for snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, surfing, music and art into a sustainable business. The founders faced the common startup challenges of breaking into the action-sports market and funding product development while balancing full-time project management jobs and long workdays.
They addressed the challenge by reinvesting nearly all personal income, building industry relationships, prioritizing loyalty and core values, and sponsoring 13 athletes (six pros) to grow brand credibility. That strategy has produced tangible momentum: prototypes for skis, snowboards and longboards ("BelongBoards") plus custom outerwear for the ski/snowboard market are in development, positioning the company for continued product expansion and market traction.
