Bedford Slims is a Brooklyn-based electronic cigarette company founded by Jesse S. Gaddis after seeing pervasive smoking and high asthma rates in his neighborhood. The early challenge was introducing an unfamiliar product with almost no cash and convincing local retailers and consumers in 2011 to try e-cigarettes.

They launched by selling pre-product inventory to neighborhood shops, then built their online presence with Shopify as the core, using mommy bloggers, social media, SEO and media relationships to drive awareness. Back-end tools like Yotpo, ShipStation, Mailchimp, Coolence and the Want Button helped with reviews, fulfillment, email marketing and cart recovery — results being a diverse national online audience, stronger traffic and sales through the Shopify store while retaining local retail partnerships.
