Battle Balm is a San Diego–based maker of a premium herbal topical analgesic that set out to bridge herbal and Western medicine by creating a clean, effective pain-relief ointment. The founder sourced raw materials from the U.S. and China (using USDA-certified organic herbs when possible) and faced the dual challenge of proving product efficacy to skeptical customers and building a robust online business without doing custom code.

They manufacture in-house, proved the product through early sales to family and patients in the founder’s acupuncture clinic, and launched on Shopify to quickly build a scalable storefront using plugins rather than custom development. Today most revenue comes from online sales, they offer wholesale to retailers and clinics, shipping is handled internally for now, and rapid growth is driving plans to outsource fulfillment while maintaining strong customer traction and repeat business.
