Battle Balm is a San Diego–based maker of a premium herbal topical analgesic that set out to bridge herbal and Western medicine by creating a clean, effective pain-relief ointment. The founder sourced raw materials from the U.S. and China (using USDA-certified organic herbs when possible) and faced the dual challenge of proving product efficacy to skeptical customers and building a robust online business without doing custom code.
They manufacture in-house, proved the product through early sales to family and patients in the founder’s acupuncture clinic, and launched on Shopify to quickly build a scalable storefront using plugins rather than custom development.
