Wood-Mode Inc, a large-scale custom cabinetry manufacturer, faced challenges in maintaining efficiency and flexibility in its high-volume, just-in-time production environment. Their need to handle a vast array of custom components and hardware for their cabinets created bottlenecks, particularly in the time required to create and change physical jigs and fixtures. ShopBot Tools provided a cell-based manufacturing solution using multiple, smaller CNC routers. This allowed Wood-Mode to move from physical templates to digital programs, drastically reducing setup times for new door styles and hardware from a month to just 15 minutes. The implementation of 16 ShopBot tools provided immense flexibility, with each machine paying for itself approximately every five weeks. The solution eliminated the need for thousands of drill bushings and gave operators efficient on-screen programming control, enabling Wood-Mode to easily manage its 219 different hardware pieces and improve overall production flow.
