Pisgah Banjos streamlines open-back banjo production with ShopBot Tools, Inc.'s CNC in a 100% solar-powered shop

Pisgah Banjos, a hand-made banjo manufacturer based in North Carolina, sought to incorporate lean manufacturing principles to increase production efficiency while maintaining their high-quality, artisanal standards. To achieve this, they partnered with vendor ShopBot Tools, Inc. and implemented a ShopBot PRSalpha ATC CNC machine.

The ShopBot CNC solution allowed Pisgah Banjos to precisely and repeatably produce a variety of banjo components, including fretboards, bridge pieces, and headstock profiles, which significantly sped up these specific aspects of production. This integration of technology supported their lean manufacturing process by freeing up time for their craftspeople to focus on extensive hand-work and finishing elsewhere in the shop. As a result, Pisgah Banjos became the third-largest banjo manufacturer in the country and is on track to produce 1,000 banjos a year.
