Organic Transit saves hundreds of hours cutting ELF panels with ShopBot Tools, Inc.

Organic Transit, a designer and manufacturer of human-powered vehicles, faced the challenge of prototyping and manufacturing its innovative ELF solar and pedal hybrid trike. They collaborated with vendor ShopBot Tools, initially using a ShopBot CNC router at a local makerspace to create a full-sized foam plug for their first composite body mold.

ShopBot provided the digital fabrication solution that enabled Organic Transit to quickly and accurately prototype designs and manufacture parts. After acquiring their own full-size ShopBot tool, the company used it to cut flat panels for the ELF, create molds for vacuum-forming, and produce dimensional models for new products. This saved them hundreds of manual labor hours. The partnership also explored future possibilities like distributed manufacturing, where parts could be made locally by other ShopBot owners, supporting job creation and a reduced carbon footprint.
