Case Study: Cerro Pacific boosts stair tread production efficiency with ShopBot CNC

Cerro Pacific cuts stair treads in about the same time as two workers on band saws with ShopBot Tools, Inc.

Cerro Pacific, a lumber and stair tread manufacturer, faced challenges with their outdated and hazardous band saw operation. Their aging equipment was costly to maintain and posed safety risks to employees. Seeking a safer and more efficient alternative, they turned to ShopBot Tools, Inc. to test a ShopBot PRSalpha CNC machine with a 5HP spindle as a potential replacement for their traditional method.

ShopBot implemented a solution using their PRSalpha CNC to cut stair treads from redwood. After initial setup and testing with VCarve Pro software to optimize toolpaths, the ShopBot was able to cut treads in approximately the same time as the previous two-person band saw team. This successful test demonstrated that the ShopBot solution could meet their production needs, leading owner Lee Burgess to approve further development of the CNC process to improve hold-down techniques and waste removal.
