A SHOEBOX Case Study
The customer, iHear, a group of medical students from the University of Ottawa, faced the challenge of providing hearing screenings to school-aged children efficiently and effectively. With few universal programs available, their goal was to detect hearing loss early to prevent developmental and academic issues. To address this mobile screening need, they turned to the vendor SHOEBOX and its iPad audiometer.
The solution from SHOEBOX was a clinically validated, portable audiometer that presented hearing tests as an engaging game for children. This allowed the iHear team to quickly produce audiograms in about five minutes per student. Using SHOEBOX, the team screened 251 children and successfully identified 12 students with hearing concerns who were then referred for follow-up care, demonstrating the solution's accuracy and effectiveness in a real-world setting.
