A SHOEBOX Case Study
Houston Eye Associates, the largest ophthalmology practice in the United States, wanted to improve access to hearing care for its older patient population while also creating a new referral stream for its affiliated hearing center. To do this, the clinic evaluated SHOEBOX QuickTest, a rapid, self-administered hearing screening tool that could be easily run by ophthalmology technicians without slowing down the eye clinic workflow.
SHOEBOX implemented QuickTest in a single-clinic pilot, with patients offered screening during their eye exams and qualified contacts followed up for hearing appointments. In three months, 102 screenings led to 23 scheduled appointments, 13 completed visits, and 4 hearing aids sold, generating $9,600 in revenue against a $750 subscription cost. Houston Eye Associates reported a $7,200 gross profit and an almost tenfold ROI, and the program has since been expanded to additional clinics.
