Bringing Hearing Health to Poor and Underserved Haitians in the Dominican Republic

The Ear Clinic, led by audiologist Brenda Tullio, wanted to bring hearing care to poor and underserved Haitian communities living in the Dominican Republic, where many people lack access to basic health services and could not easily be tested or treated. To support this humanitarian mission, Brenda used SHOEBOX Audiometry, a portable hearing testing solution.

With SHOEBOX Audiometry, Brenda was able to perform diagnostic hearing tests in the field without a sound booth, using the iPad-based, game-style interface to overcome language barriers. Over four days, she completed 18 hearing tests and fit 5 people with significant hearing loss with donated hearing aids, helping improve access to hearing care for people who otherwise would not have received treatment.
