How Salvos Stores Scaled Fulfilment For Australia’s First Online Op Shop

The Salvation Army’s Salvos Stores launched Australia’s first online op shop in 2020 to sell donated second‑hand goods nationwide, but rapid ecommerce growth during COVID‑19—parcel volumes more than quadrupled and online sales rose 212%—created a fulfilment challenge. With hundreds of store locations, thousands of volunteers packing over 5,000 parcels a month, Salvos needed a multi‑user, easy‑to‑use shipping system that could split orders by store and reduce manual work.

Salvos implemented ShipStation, integrating Australia Post accounts for each store and using automation rules to split and assign shipments to the correct locations, generate labels, and send branded tracking updates. The result was faster, more accurate fulfilment and scalable growth—ShipStation has supported tens of thousands of orders from hundreds of locations, enabled training of staff and volunteers, and helped Salvos list and dispatch thousands of unique items online profitably.
