A Shimmer Research Case Study
Researchers at the University of Windsor aimed to study emotional arousal through physiological responses to improve forensic interview techniques and lie-detecting technology. They partnered with Shimmer Research and utilized the Shimmer3 GSR+ platform, which includes PPG and GSR sensors, to measure heart rate and skin conductance as participants were exposed to emotional stimuli.
Shimmer provided a straightforward solution with sensors that collected data to an SD card and streamed it live via Bluetooth for real-time analysis and event marking. The research found a weak positive correlation of 0.1069 in heart rate responses between initial and secondary exposures to the stimuli, providing valuable data on the variability of emotional arousal. This work by Shimmer has significant implications for advancing biometric applications in the forensic sciences.
