Deaconess Health System Turns to ShiftWizard to Manage Labor Costs, Save Time and Improve Communication Across Multiple Hospitals

Deaconess Health System, a six-hospital, 20+ care-site system in southern Indiana, faced fragmented staffing operations with multiple siloed scheduling tools and Excel-based processes. Seeking an enterprise-wide solution that could handle their unique four-hour shift model, Deaconess selected ShiftWizard and began an organization-wide implementation in early 2015 to unify scheduling across nursing and ancillary departments.

ShiftWizard was rolled out starting in nursing and expanded to Pharmacy, Dietary and other units, providing flexible four-hour shift support, standardized start/stop times, PAR-level controls, self-scheduling and template-based scheduling. The vendor’s solution delivered greater transparency for tracking overtime, reduced scheduling errors and improved cross-unit communication; Deaconess reports major time savings (completing work in about 12 hours vs. 24 with their prior tool and about a week on paper) and better alignment of staff to patient needs thanks to ShiftWizard.
