Alberta Correctional Services Division (part of Alberta Justice and Solicitor General) oversees 10 provincial correctional centres, including Canada’s largest remand centre, and needed to modernize complex 24/7 staffing operations. Their legacy paper- and spreadsheet-based scheduling lacked real-time visibility, made fatigue management and fair overtime distribution difficult, and could not easily enforce complex business and AUPE union rules or provide audit histories.

After an extensive RFP process Alberta CSD selected Shiftboard’s scheduling software for its ability to handle complex rules and provide strong audit and support capabilities. Within a year the solution simplified scheduling, improved communications and staff allocation, drastically reduced admin time, and eliminated 41,000 overtime hours at a single facility; the platform is now being rolled out across additional sites.
