Using Word-of-Mouth Marketing to Reach the Military Community

Shindigz, a family‑owned party supplies retailer, wanted to protect and promote a 20% military discount they launched in 2012 but didn’t have a large paid‑media budget. Their challenge was to ensure only eligible service members and families could redeem the offer while driving awareness and trust within the military community without a heavy ad spend.

Working with SheerID, Shindigz implemented automated military verification, built an SEO‑optimized military landing page and dedicated site content, and promoted the program via email, affiliates, PR and outreach to military bloggers (nine bloggers with ~97K followers). The campaign drove strong results: +22% military orders and +35% military sales (Jan/Feb YOY), record verifications around Memorial Day, +32% growth for Veterans Day month, and overall Q4 increases of 185% in orders and 235% in sales year‑over‑year.
