A SheerID Case Study
DirecTV wanted to grow adoption of its NFLSundayTicket.TV streaming service among college students but needed a reliable way to verify eligibility and target the discount offer. In 2014 it ran a pilot that used SheerID to confirm student status for a $199.99 discounted subscription at 10 universities, testing the market and enrollment verification process.
The SheerID verification allowed DirecTV to scale the promotion: in 2015 the offer expanded to full-time students at over 2,000 four-year U.S. colleges and universities, and students became the service’s heaviest users—more than a third of subscribers. Based on that success, the program was extended to full-time students at 2-year colleges in 2016.
