A ShapeWays Case Study
Mimaki, a precision engineering and printing company, wanted to expand into 3D printing without losing the color expertise that had made it a leader in 2D printing. The challenge was to bring high-quality, full-color 3D printing to market with the same accuracy, fidelity, and industrial reliability associated with Mimaki’s broader print technology.
Shapeways partnered with Mimaki to produce high-definition full-color 3D prints on the Mimaki 3DUJ-553, using material jetting and eight piezoelectric print heads to deliver vivid, photorealistic models with fine detail. The collaboration helped make Mimaki’s ten-million-color 3D printing more accessible to customers, supporting applications like gaming figurines, medical models, and architectural prototypes, while also eliminating manual hand-painting and enabling consistent, repeatable color output.
