LuxMea Studio, a computational design and digital fabrication company, needed a way to create comfortable, durable, reusable face masks that fit each customer individually. To solve the limitations of “one size fits all,” LuxMea partnered with ShapeWays to produce its Nuo Masks using 3D printing and mass customization.

Using ShapeWays’ commercial 3D printing platform and API, LuxMea generated bespoke mask designs from online facial measurements, then printed and shipped each custom mask. The result was a faster prototyping cycle, tens of design revisions in just three weeks, and a custom mask that achieved a better seal and passed an N95 fit test at a hospital client’s facility.
