A ShapeWays Case Study
BotFactory, a New York startup founded by engineers at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, set out to speed up PCB prototyping for students and hardware teams frustrated by long turnaround times and repeated revision cycles. As the company developed its Squink and later SV2 electronic circuit printers, it needed durable, precise 3D printed parts that could withstand mechanical stress and support rapid iteration; for that, it turned to Shapeways and its 3D printing service.
Shapeways helped BotFactory refine and reproduce key machine components, including a more effective toolhead and other main parts for the SV2 series, using Nylon 12 [Versatile Plastic] for its strength, impact resistance, and heat tolerance. The result was improved performance, accuracy, and repeatability, with BotFactory able to build more robust, professional-grade printers and continue offering support for the original Squink while scaling to a more advanced product line.
