Armor Bionics - Customer Case Study

Armor Bionics, a Uruguay-based medical technology company, needed a better way to help surgeons plan complex procedures using patient-specific anatomical models. Their challenge was to focus on precise 3D design for surgical planning while finding a reliable manufacturing partner to produce high-quality printed models at scale, especially for hospitals and clinics in the U.S. and globally. They used Shapeways for 3D printing of their medical models, including parts made in Nylon 12 [Versatile Plastic] with Selective Laser Sintering (SLS).

Armor Bionics partnered with Shapeways to manufacture and ship its 3D printed surgical models worldwide, allowing the company to concentrate on design while Shapeways handled production. The result was highly accurate, repeatable medical models that surgeons trusted for planning and training, saving hours in pre-operative preparation and improving surgical efficiency. In one notable case, a conjoined twins separation in Peru used an Armor Bionics model as a key planning tool for five surgical teams and 40 doctors over a 17-hour operation.
