A ShapesXR Case Study
The University of California, Santa Cruz sought to create an inclusive, multidisciplinary undergraduate course focused on creative design in virtual reality. The challenge was to overcome the burnout, gatekeeping, and technical barriers typically associated with VR development, such as prerequisite programming knowledge, to keep the focus on human-centered design and collaboration for students from any background.
Using ShapesXR, students were able to design and build functional VR application prototypes without coding. The solution enabled collaborative, experiential learning, with all students successfully creating a final VR project within a single ten-week academic quarter. ShapesXR provided an accessible foundation for the course, tearing down cost and prerequisite barriers and empowering educators to deliver hands-on, project-based instruction in an emerging field.
