Replacing RFID-Powered Forklift Tracking with SEWIO RTLS to Cut Down Maintenance Costs

Budweiser Budvar Brewery, delivered by ICZ, needed a better way to track more than 20,000 pallets across a single production and warehousing site while supplying beer to 76 countries. Its RFID-based location system was costly to maintain, slow for forklift operations, limited to fixed tag positions, and unable to provide true movement data or the operational metrics logistics managers wanted.

Sewio Networks provided a UWB-powered RTLS integrated with systems including OSIRIS WMS, ERP Aurora 3.0, DCIx by Aimtec, and SSI Schäfer’s Material Flow Control System. The installation covered 15,000 m² with 70 receivers and 15 tracked forklifts, and it replaced the RFID project in seven months with less than one month of actual installation time. Budweiser Budvar reported 99% uptime versus 80% with RFID, a 19% increase in warehouse utilization, 30 cm accuracy, and access to forklift metrics such as daily attendance, distance traveled, and heatmaps.
