Optimization of Efficiency and Warehouse Layout by Monitoring Forklift Trucks Using RTLS

Bora S.p.A., an automotive and household appliance mold manufacturer, needed a better way to manage mixed goods in a warehouse with stacks on the floor, narrow aisles, corners, and areas without shelves. The company wanted to reduce the risk of incorrect picking and delivery, improve FIFO handling, and track the exact location of materials and forklift forks. Sewio Networks provided the RTLS technology used in the project.

Using Sewio Networks’ UWB-based RTLS hardware, Digimark built a real-time monitoring system with 3D forklift positioning, warehouse location guidance, and notifications for goods ready in production. The system covered 1,000 m2, tracked 3 forklifts, and reached 30 cm precision. Results included 0 picking errors in three months, a 15% reduction in picking time, a 25% reduction in inventory time, a 10% increase in warehouse usage, and no more zones dedicated to only one kind of pallet.
