Canadian Natural Resources Limited cuts muster completion from 120 minutes to 12 with Sewio Networks

Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) faced a significant safety challenge during maintenance turnarounds at its Pine River gas plant, where 350 contractors with varying work habits increased site risk. Their paper-based mustering system required 120 minutes to account for personnel in an emergency, creating dangerous delays. To improve employee safety, CNRL partnered with vendor Sewio Networks to digitize this critical process using Sewio's Real-Time Location System (RTLS).

Sewio implemented a UWB-based RTLS solution, covering 2,800 m² with 19 anchors and equipping each worker with a tracking badge featuring an RTLS tag, RFID, and a panic button. This system provided real-time visibility of personnel locations. The results were dramatic: mustering time plummeted from 120 minutes to just 12 minutes, and evacuation list generation was reduced from eight minutes to one second. The Sewio solution also enabled faster emergency response via the panic button and helped lower insurance costs.
