Serverless Framework adopts DynamoDB On-Demand to scale to 40,000 requests per second with Serverless Inc

Serverless Inc, the vendor behind the Serverless Framework, helped its customer, Serverless Framework, overcome the challenge of capacity planning and throttling for its DynamoDB databases. The customer's serverless applications required auto-scaling and pay-per-use billing, but the traditional provisioned capacity model for DynamoDB forced them to predict and manage database throughput, which was a poor fit for their unpredictable traffic patterns.

The solution implemented by Serverless Inc was to guide the customer in adopting AWS's new DynamoDB On-Demand pricing model. This was done by modifying their infrastructure-as-code configuration in their `serverless.yml` file to remove provisioned throughput and enable pay-per-request billing. The result was a database that could instantly and automatically scale from zero to over 4,000 requests per second without throttling, providing a truly serverless experience and eliminating the operational overhead of capacity management for the customer.
