How Droplr Scales to Millions With The Serverless Framework

Droplr, a file-sharing and screen-capture platform used by more than 500,000 users, needed to simplify and scale a growing microservices environment that was becoming burdened by Docker-based complexity, rapid deployment challenges, and underutilized EC2 resources. To streamline development and support faster growth, Droplr began evaluating AWS Lambda with the Serverless Framework from Serverless Inc.

Using Serverless Inc’s Serverless Framework, Droplr migrated background workers, scheduled jobs, event-driven functions, HTTP APIs, integrations, and even server-side rendered apps to AWS Lambda. The company reported that more than 50% of its services had moved to Lambda, with new APIs now built on Serverless by default; the approach also improved deployment reproducibility, simplified operations, and helped keep MongoDB connection spikes low through container reuse.
