Case Study: Lufthansa achieves centralized payment processing and cash visibility with Serrala

A Serrala Case Study

Preview of the Lufthansa Case Study

Lufthansa - Customer Case Study

Lufthansa, the global aviation group, needed to improve visibility and control over group liquidity across 540 entities while centralizing and standardizing payment processing. With around 1,500 bank accounts, many local banks, multiple ERP instances, and fragmented banking systems, the company lacked consistent processes and a clear view of liquidity. It selected Serrala and its payment factory solution to help build a bank-independent hub connecting internal systems and banks.

Serrala implemented a phased payment factory covering payment management, treasury management, cash/liquidity features, and eBAM enhancements, with rule-based format conversion to XML ISO 20022 and automated bank statement retrieval. The project enabled Lufthansa to migrate to more automated, controlled, and consistent payment processes, complete its SEPA transition within the broader rollout, and reduce reliance on multiple electronic banking systems. Lufthansa reported that it had already connected about 90% of relevant countries and was centralizing at least 75% of outgoing vendor payments as the rollout progressed.
