Nationwide, one of the world’s largest insurance and financial services companies, had developed more than 500 COBOL coding standards but struggled to enforce them across mainframe development. Traditional training, reviews and workshops produced limited adoption, poor visibility into conformance, and a labor-intensive governance process that risked code quality and production controls.

Nationwide worked with WebLayers and Serena to deploy WebLayers Center integrated with Serena ChangeMan ZMF, creating a policy-driven governor that validates standards automatically (for example at compile time). The solution provided early, automated guidance, standardized and enforced processes, improved compliance and efficiency, and made ChangeMan ZMF the required gate for all production changes—giving the company reliable, real-time confidence in conformance.
