A Sepio Case Study
A large corporate bank needed to protect its Zero Trust environment after discovering that a palm-vein biometric scanner had been compromised and was allowing unauthorized access. The attack showed that identity-based controls alone could be bypassed when a rogue hardware device impersonated a legitimate peripheral at the physical layer.
Sepio addressed the issue with its HAC-1 Hardware Access Control solution, which uses physical-layer fingerprinting and machine learning to identify rogue, manipulated, unmanaged, and hidden devices. By detecting the compromised scanner and enforcing policy-based mitigation, Sepio helped block unapproved hardware and restore trust at the device level, strengthening the bank’s Zero Trust posture.
