Case Study: CIA strengthens federal network security with Sepio’s rogue device mitigation

A Sepio Case Study

CIA secures federal network after 500 MB breach with Sepio

The customer, a U.S. federal agency (CIA), faced a significant cybersecurity challenge after a breach involving an unauthorized Raspberry Pi exposed vulnerabilities due to a lack of network segmentation and insufficient hardware asset visibility. This incident highlighted the critical need for a solution to detect and mitigate rogue devices to strengthen federal network security, leading them to the vendor Sepio and its Rogue Device Mitigation (RDM) capabilities.

Sepio implemented its Asset Risk Management (ARM) solution, which provides physical-layer visibility and uses machine learning to fingerprint and analyze all connected hardware. This enabled the agency to rapidly detect sophisticated hardware-based threats, enforce granular security policies, and automatically block unauthorized devices, thereby significantly strengthening their overall network security posture and protecting critical national assets.
