SAP UCC Magdeburg migrates 300 SAP systems in just over 35 days with SEP
The SAP University Competence Center (SAP UCC) Magdeburg, a major educational support center providing SAP training environments for universities worldwide, faced the challenge of replacing its aging HPE StoreOnce backup solution with DataProtector. They needed a new, flexible backup software that could support HPE Catalyst storage and, crucially, provide certified backup for a wide array of SAP applications and databases within their heterogeneous virtualized environment.
The solution was implemented by SEP using their SEP sesam backup software. The migration involved deploying SEP sesam on a new HPE StoreOnce 5200, enabling certified backup for their complex SAP landscape. The results included a successful full migration in just over 35 days, automated backup integration via scripts, and the ability to protect the latest SAP versions. SEP sesam now manages backups for approximately 300 SAP systems, nearly 600 VMs, and over 10,000 data sets in a four-week cycle, ensuring a future-proof data protection foundation.
