SAP University Competence Center - Customer Case Study

SAP University Competence Center (SAP UCC) in Magdeburg needed to replace an aging HPE StoreOnce/DataProtector backup stack with a flexible, HPE Catalyst–compatible, SAP‑certified solution able to protect a highly heterogeneous training environment — roughly 300 SAP systems, nearly 600 VMware VMs, and infrastructure used by thousands of lecturers and over 130,000 students. After evaluations at HPE Discover 2018, the center selected SEP Software and its SEP sesam backup product to meet those requirements.

SEP Software implemented SEP sesam alongside a new HPE StoreOnce 5200, automating backups via scripting and migrating DB2, SAP HANA, MaxDB, VDI and file/mail/github systems. The migration was completed in just over 35 days (full rollout within two months), retention currently holds ~41.9 TB deduplicated (~335 TB logical) on StoreOnce, and the UCC gained SAP‑ and HPE‑certified, scriptable protection that supports current and future SAP releases (including S/4HANA), plus ongoing implementation support from SEP Software.
