Case Study: HÜBNER GmbH & Co. KG achieves seamless WD Arkeia replacement and future-proof hybrid backup with SEP Software (SEP sesam)

Safely into the future by replacing the WD Arkeia environment in a grown heterogeneous IT structure

HÜBNER GmbH & Co. KG, a global systems supplier with 25 locations and over 3,300 employees, faced the imminent end-of-life of its WD Arkeia backup solution while needing to expand and future-proof a heterogeneous IT environment (≈30 TB data across Linux-heavy servers, VMware VMs, SAN storage and multiple databases). To avoid major infrastructure changes, HÜBNER selected SEP Software and its SEP sesam hybrid backup solution to replace Arkeia while preserving existing processes and minimizing migration effort.

SEP Software implemented SEP sesam to map and optimize HÜBNER’s previous backup strategy, integrating diverse applications, VMs and databases and enabling central backups over a 10 Gb LAN to an 80 TB disk system and LTO7 tape library. The migration—completed with SEP experts—secured ~30 TB across multiple sites, simplified operations (including access to decentralized tape libraries), provided flexible volume licensing, and replaced WD Arkeia with a scalable, future-proof backup platform from SEP Software.
