The Netherlands Institute for Space Research (SRON) was struggling with mission-critical backups that took four days to complete, causing lost compute time and forced postponement of backup jobs. After tests showed existing solutions (Yosemite from Barracuda and Syncsort) were inadequate or too costly, SRON selected SEP Software and its SEP sesam backup product to address the problem.

SEP Software implemented SEP sesam with its patented Multi‑Streaming Technology, running 16 concurrent data streams (and scalable as needed) to consolidate Novell, Linux and Windows backups across SRON’s heterogeneous environment. The result: full backup windows dropped from about four days to roughly 3–4 hours, SEP sesam outperformed the previous solution on the same hardware, SRON avoided nearly $250,000 in additional hardware purchases, and backup operations were centralized and highly scalable.
