Highland Community College - Customer Case Study

Highland Community College faced an aging IT infrastructure and a fragmented backup environment—using ARCserve, vRanger and various scripts—to protect some 75 VMware virtual servers, multiple file/print servers and databases across campus. Seeking one vendor-supported, disk-to-disk-to-tape disaster recovery strategy with SAN replication and a single point of management, the college selected SEP Software and its SEP sesam solution to modernize and secure their backup operations.

SEP Software implemented SEP sesam across the production and test systems, providing VM-level and volume/system backups, SAN-to-SAN replication and tape migration to an HP autoloader, plus a single-pane real-time job-monitoring interface. The deployment consolidated three backup platforms into one, enabled reliable DR preparedness, and—by the college’s measure—completed full backups more than 25 times faster than the previous solution, with strong vendor support throughout.
