The City of Fitchburg faced a growing data-protection challenge: its IT department needed a reliable, budget-friendly backup solution to secure systems across the Police, Fire, Public Works, City Clerk and other departments while supporting a heterogeneous environment (HP DL360/380, SANs, VMware with four ESX hosts, Novell services, SUSE/SLES, MS SQL/mySQL) and an upcoming migration to Microsoft technologies. After difficulties with Syncsort, the City selected SEP Software and its SEP sesam product to meet these requirements.

SEP Software implemented SEP sesam to provide centralized backups across the entire environment, including temporary licenses to ease the migration, and worked closely with City staff during installation and testing. The result: full backups now average about 6 hours, the City is backing up more servers than ever with a shorter backup window, ongoing costs have been cut by roughly 50%, and management time and total cost of ownership have been significantly reduced.
