SentryOne Breaks Through Performance Ceiling with Data Monitoring Innovation

Microsoft profiled SentryOne, a provider of Microsoft SQL Server and Azure monitoring solutions, as it faced performance ceilings that threatened growth. As customer data volumes increased, SentryOne’s monitoring databases were limited to about 250 monitored targets per database, creating pressure on its telemetry storage and ingestion infrastructure.

SentryOne responded by using SQL Server technologies including partitioned clustered columnstore indexes and In-Memory OLTP to boost ingestion performance and reduce storage needs. With SentryOne’s solution, capacity rose to more than 800 targets per database at 10-second resolution with almost zero latency, storage and memory requirements dropped 10-fold, compute fell 15%, and customer query response times improved by about 9 to 10 times.
