A Sensor Tower Case Study
Duolingo, the popular language-learning app, sought to expand beyond its strong English-speaking base and needed market intelligence to inform global user-acquisition and localization strategies. In 2019 Duolingo worked with Sensor Tower, leveraging Store Intelligence and App Intelligence to research high-performing “role model” apps and identify playbooks for international growth where the education category lacked clear benchmarks.
Using Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence to shortlist category leaders and App Intelligence to analyze update history, localization, and download trends, Duolingo conducted interviews with role-model publishers and applied those insights internally. With Sensor Tower’s data as the foundation, Duolingo project-managed an overhaul of localization (including Duolingo Stories and premium content), doubled down on LATAM marketing, and grew to be a Top 10 Education App in more than 65 countries.
